Dear Friends of St. Andrew's Abbey,

With sincere gratitude, I wish to thank each and every one of you who generously contributed to our Lenten Appeal.

Your gifts of over $7600 will help us serve the poor in the context of Benedictine spirituality. This includes, among other useful forms of support, emergency financial assistance to families and individuals who cannot pay for their basic needs. Most important, it includes prayers for the grace and mercy of Our Risen Lord to give them hope and joy in spite of their many hardships.

Please know that I deeply appreciate your faithful dedication to the connection between the Abbey's mission and the commands of Jesus to "love one another." (John 13:34). And be assured of our prayers for you throughout this Year of Mercy.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Abbot Damien Toilolo, O.S.B.

Lent 2016

Dear Friends of the Abbey,

During this Lenten Season, the Church invites us to turn more fully to God through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Accepting this invitation makes us more ready to turn to our neighbor.

God says through the prophet Isaiah, "Is this not the fast I choose...to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the homeless into your house, to clothe the naked?..." (Isaiah 58).

Here at the Abbey we do our best with the little we have, to honor the Lord through fasting and caring for the poor and needy. These distressed individuals and their families have regularly come to the Abbey for assistance over the years, but lately they have increased in numbers, and their needs appear more pressing.

During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, especially during this holy season of Lent, I invite you to join us in our mission, which is the mission of the Church, to help us care for the poor and destitute who find their way to the Abbey looking for assistance, God, and hope.

Even the smallest gift will make a difference in the Abbey's daily service of ministering to Christ in the poor and healing souls.

Be assured of our prayers for you throughout this Year of Mercy.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Abbot Damien Toilolo, O.S.B.
