SUMMARY:Lectio Divina and the Monastic Practice of Contemplative Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Lectio Divina\, the ancient Christian art of praying the scriptures\, is a way of allowing the Bible\, the Word of God\, to become a means of union with God: in other words\, through lectio divina\, the reading of sacred scripture becomes the gateway to contemplative prayer. In this workshop\, ancient and modern approaches to the practice of lectio divina\, as well as its application to the practice of contemplative prayer will be studied and practiced. \n  \nPresenter: LUKE DYSINGER MD\, DPhil\, has been a monk of Saint Andrew’s Abbey since 1980.  He studied medicine at the University of Southern California and theology at the University of Oxford.  He is a professor of moral theology and church history at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo\, California\, and has published books and articles in the fields of bioethics\, early Christian spirituality\, and patristics. \n*If the event is listed as sold out\, please call us at 661-944-2178 for real-time availability and a waiting list.\n**The Start and End times for the retreat reflect the check-in and check-out times. We will provide the retreat itinerary at check-in.
