SUMMARY:One Flesh Faith: A Weekend of Renewal for Christian Marriages
DESCRIPTION:Marriage is beautiful\, but it is also ground zero of the spiritual battle.  Every couple discovers\, at some point\, that loving one another the way Christ calls us to love is much harder than expected.  This retreat offers couples a chance to step away from the noise\, reconnect with God\,\nand rediscover each other within the peace of the desert. \nThroughout the weekend\, you and your spouse will explore what it truly means to be One Flesh: \n● Embrace God’s design as man and woman\n● Heal what has quietly wounded your unity\n● Rediscover intimacy and purpose\n● Discover the unique mission of your marriage \nWhether you’ve been married for six months or sixty years\, this retreat will meet you exactly where you are. Couples who are thriving will be strengthened. Couples who feel distant or discouraged will find hope.  And those who simply want to grow will leave with renewed purpose and grace. \nWhat To Expect \n● A welcoming\, monastic Benedictine environment (desert\, silence\, prayer)\n● Honest\, relatable talks rooted in Scripture and real-life experience\n● Time for reflection\, prayer\, silence\, and conversation as a couple\n● Opportunities for healing and renewed connection\n● Practical tools to help you love one another with greater freedom and joy\n● A special surprise on the last day \nThis is not a conference\, a counseling session\, or a series of lectures.  It is a spiritual experience designed to help you: see clearly\, love deeply\, forgive freely\, and live your Christian mission as one. \nPresenters: \nJESSICA ECHEVERRY is a Catholic speaker\, published author\, Catholic Social Teaching and family advocate whose work centers on healing\, dignity\, and hope.  Through her ministries and her nonprofit leadership\, she shares her powerful testimony from trauma\, poverty\, and loss to restoration in Christ and accompanies individuals and families toward deeper wholeness.  Jessica speaks nationally on homelessness\, motherhood\, marriage\, forgiveness\, and the\ntransforming mercy of God\, inviting others to discover the freedom that comes from a life fully surrendered to Him. (www.dazzledbygod.com) \nDEACON CHARLIE ECHEVERRY is an ordained deacon of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles\, a Catholic film and television producer\, author\, podcast host and founder of Black//Brown studios. Through writing\, preaching\, speaking\, and content evangelization\, he helps bring the Gospel into the heart of culture. (www.deaconcharlie.com) \nTogether\, Jessica and Deacon Charlie speak and minister as a couple\, offering a candid\, authentic and hope-filled witness of God’s healing power in sacramental marriage. Drawing from lived experience\, pastoral ministry\, and years of walking with couples\, they help spouses rediscover true identity\, unity\, intimacy\, and the grace of becoming one flesh in Christ. \n*If the event is listed as sold out\, please call us at 661-944-2178 for real-time availability and a waiting list.\n**The Start and End times for the retreat reflect the check-in and check-out times. SUMMARY:The Flame Within: Writing Your Life
DESCRIPTION:This week-long memoir writing workshop with award-winning author Heather King offers a unique opportunity to reflect\, write\, and grow. Designed for writers at any stage\, the workshop emphasizes the value of the creative process\, while the peaceful rhythms of St. Andrew’s Abbey will afford space for silence\, self-inquiry\, and honest expression. \nEveryone is welcome. The workshop is designed for all who have a love of writing\, including those who may have never written at all\, or perhaps never shared their writing with another. We all start somewhere! \nThrough daily talks on craft—covering story\, theme\, structure\, and revision—as well as focused sessions on how to begin and how to sustain a writing practice\, participants will be guided in how to shape their life experiences into meaningful narrative. \nTo encourage digging deeper\, the workshop will include writing prompts\, group discussion\, and the optional opportunity to read work aloud. The techniques of memoir\, as well as the value of writing as a practice of attention and transformation will be emphasized. \nIn addition to structured time\, the retreat allows for plenty of solitude and open space. Participants are encouraged to explore the grounds\, pray or reflect in the chapel\, join the monks for the Divine Office and daily Mass\, write under the trees\, or engage in unhurried conversation. \n“Every human being has an authentic voice and a unique story. Let’s get together—human-to-human—and start telling them.” \n  \nPresenter: HEATHER KING Obl. OSB\, is an author\, columnist and nationwide speaker with several memoirs\, among them Parched¸ Shirt of Flame\, Holy Desperation\, and Consumed: The Joys\, Débacles and Sorrows of a Life Ordered to Art. SUMMARY:EDITH STEIN: Her Journey from Darkness into Light
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we reflect on the life and times of Teresa Benedicta of the Cross\, a brilliant philosopher and poet\, a mystic and searcher of the truth\, and a Jew — a daughter of Israel.  Her encounter with the cross in the life of a Christian friend sparked an inner transformation that led to her baptism into the Catholic faith.  Her reading of the life of Teresa of Avila brought her to the door of the Cologne Carmel\, where she began her contemplative journey as a Carmelite nun.  Her Jewish identity and her Catholic faith collided with the oppressive Nazi regime and led to her martyrdom at Auschwitz. \n  \nPresenter: FR. JOSEPH BRENNAN\, OSB\, has been a monk of Valyermo since 1994 after having served as a parish priest in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for over 20 years. He is a spiritual director at the Cardinal Manning House of Prayer for priests in Los Angeles as well as St. Andrew’s Sub-Prior. \n  \n*If the event is listed as sold out\, please call us at 661-944-2178 for real-time availability and a waiting list.

SUMMARY:The Monastic Wisdom of John Cassian
DESCRIPTION:This retreat will introduce retreatants to the monastic theology of John Cassian\, one of the most important monastic theologians of the early church\, as laid out in his two most important works: the Conferences and the Institutes.  Cassian’s overall monastic vision will be discussed alongside his own unique contributions to Western monasticism.  His role as interpreter of the theology of Evagrius Ponticus (and other eastern desert fathers) will be examined alongside his thoroughly biblical vision of monastic life.  Further\, the retreat will show how his spiritual theology is applicable to all Christians desiring union with God. \n  \nPresenter: REV. DR. GREG PETERS\, Obl. OSB\, is an oblate of Valyermo\, Professor of Medieval and Spiritual Theology at Biola University\, La Mirada\, CA\, and the Servants of Christ Research Professor of Monastic Studies and Ascetical Theology at Nashotah House Theological Seminary in Wisconsin. As an Anglican priest\, he serves as Vicar of the Anglican Church of the Epiphany\, also in La Mirada. He is the author of Reforming the Monastery: Protestant Theologies of the Religious Life\, The Story of Monasticism: Retrieving an Ancient Tradition for Contemporary Spirituality and The Monkhood of All Believers: The Monastic Foundation of Christian Spirituality. \n  \n*If the event is listed as sold out\, please call us at 661-944-2178 for real-time availability and a waiting list.\n**The Start and End times for the retreat reflect the check-in and check-out times. We will provide the retreat itinerary at check-in.

SUMMARY:Slowing Our Pace with Saint Benedict
DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Rule of Saint Benedict asks us to go inward and to cultivate a gentle pace and slow rhythm\, listening not to external sounds but to God’s presence with “the ear of our hearts.” In many ways\, this is at odds with the understanding of progress that shapes American culture\, and indeed the Western modern tradition. For us\, progress is linear\, committed to visible growth\, and predicated on accelerating speed. This retreat will focus on the slow\, rhythmic beauty of the Benedictine tradition as it calls us to slow our pace as we search for God and develop a new understanding of progress. \n  \nFocus will be on the topics of listening\, rhythmic prayer\, and slowing our pace\, which contrasts with the contemporary emphasis on speed\, growth\, and constant acceleration. It will be grounded in the Rule of Saint Benedict and Sacred Scripture\, while also examining how modernity in the West foregrounds and defines “progress”. The slow movement will be mentioned as it overlaps with the Benedictine tradition. \n  \nPresenter: MARY CAPUTI has been an oblate of Saint Andrew’s Abbey since 2007. She holds a Ph.D in political theory from Cornell University\, a Master’s in International Relations from the University of Chicago\, and a Master’s in Italian Studies from California State University\, Long Beach. \n  \n*If the event is listed as sold out\, please call us at 661-944-2178 for real-time availability and a waiting list. \n

SUMMARY:Monastic Traditions of Prayer and Modern Spirituality (Zoom Option)
DESCRIPTION:Modern methods of “contemplative prayer” often emphasize apophatic spirituality: that is\, on the experience of imageless\, wordless rest in God’s Presence.  In this workshop we will explore ancient and modern monastic authors who encourage the integration of this dimension of sacred silence with the rich dynamic of kataphatic\, image-filled liturgical prayer. \n  \nPresenter: LUKE DYSINGER MD\, DPhil\, has been a monk of Saint Andrew’s Abbey since 1980.  He studied medicine at the University of Southern California and theology at the University of Oxford.  He is a professor of moral theology and church history at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo\, California\, and has published books and articles in the fields of bioethics\, early Christian spirituality\, and patristics.

SUMMARY:Pilares Indispensables para que Tu MATRIMONIO Sea Una Aventura de Amor
