(Bernardo) [1090-1153], abbot, model for those who bear grave responsibilities while ill. Both diffident and infirm, St. Bernard was a courageous witness to truth and justice during the 12th century. He is the second founder of the Cistercian order and a Doctor of the Church. He is patron of chandlers (candlemakers) and of Gibraltar. His feast is August 20.
