(Vincente, Vicente, Vinzent) [1581-1660], founder of the Congregation of the Priests of the Missions, or Vincentians, as they are known in this country, and co-founder with St. Louise de Marillac of the Daughters of Charity, is the preeminent apostle of charity for the modern world. His zeal for those in need, for education, and his innovations in the formation of the religious community of women remain an inspiration and example for those who would dedicate themselves to Christian charity. He is patron of charitable societies, hospitals, prisoners and of Madagascar. His feast is September 27.
