ANCIENT AND MODERN BENEDICTINE SPIRITUALITY: Contemplative Practices For Today (ZOOM Option)

In the Benedictine tradition the Sacred Scriptures have always been at the center.  In the whole of the Bible, and especially while chanting the Book of Psalms, Benedictines daily encounter Jesus Christ in prayer.  In this workshop we will consider the history and modern use of the ancient Christian practices of lectio divina (praying the Scriptures) , psalmody, and intentional community life.

Presenter: LUKE DYSINGER MD, DPhil, has been a monk of Saint Andrew’s Abbey since 1980.  He studied medicine at the University of Southern California and theology at the University of Oxford.  He is a professor of moral theology and church history at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California and has published books and articles in the fields of bioethics, early Christian spirituality and patristics.
