Lectio Divina: The Ancient Art of Praying the Scriptures

May 9, 2025 @ 3:00 pm - May 11, 2025 @ 10:00 am

$150.00 – $532.00

Lectio divina, the ancient Christian art of praying the scriptures, allows the Bible, the Word of God, to become a means of union with God. In other words, through lectio divina, reading sacred scripture becomes the gateway to contemplative prayer. In this workshop, ancient and modern approaches to the practice of lectio divina and its application to contemplative prayer will be studied and practiced.

Presenter: FR. LUKE DYSINGER MD, DPhil, has been a monk of Saint Andrew’s Abbey since 1980.  He studied medicine at the University of Southern California and theology at the University of Oxford.  He is professor of moral theology and church history at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California and has published books and articles in the fields of bioethics, early Christian spirituality and patristics.
